با پیگیری‌های سومین شهید محراب حضرت آیت‌الله صدوقی (ره) در ۲۳ بهمن‌ ماه سال ۱۳۶۷ دانشگاه یزد به‌ عنوان اولین دانشگاه جامع کشور بعد از انقلاب اسلامی با پذیرش ۳۸ نفر دانشجو در مقطع کارشناسی رسماً کار خود را آغاز کرد. در مهر ماه سال ۱۳۷۰ دانش‌سرای عالی یزد در دانشگاه یزد ادغام شد. از آن زمان تاکنون هماهنگ با گسترش و ارتقای سطح کیفی فعالیت‌های علمی و آموزشی، توسعه فیزیکی دانشگاه به‌ طور جدی در دستور کار مدیران و برنامه‌ریزان این مجموعه قرارگرفته است.
